Hi everyone,

Another week goes by without much snow. This week we will have two practices at Elm Creek, and one race at Theodore Wirth. Theodore Wirth is home to our Conference and Section Championships later this year. It will be great experience for us to ski there this week for a classic race. Teams there are Maple Grove, Park Center, Osseo, Irondale, and Spring Lake Park

Elm Creek practices are Monday (Skate) at 6:15-7:45 and Wednesday (Classic) from 6:15-7:45. The school has allowed us to take a bus to these practices, which is awesome. The whole team can take the bus if they would like. The bus will leave ERHS at 5:30 and be back around 8:30. Be there at 5:15 to get your skis and get ready to go.

Tuesday we will be at ERHS and have a chance for waxing skis. I know some of you have been asking about it. Tuesday is the day.

Friday and Saturday are TBD at the moment. If you have an Elm Creek pass, the option of skiing on your own is a possibility Friday.

Let’s hope for another great week, think snow!

Hello all,

With the recent thaw on Monday, the trails are un-skiable at Woodlands until we get more snow. Even an inch or two would get us skiing out there again, as the trail is covered in a layer of ice, not bare ground. The alternative plan for the week is as follows.

Tomorrow: Race at Hyland as planned. 5k skate, girls at 4:00, boys at 4:30

Release times: Zimmerman: 1:05, bus leaves 1:15

Salk/Vandenberg: 1:10, walk to ERHS bus leaves 1:35

ERHS: 1:20 bus leaves 1:35

Rogers HS: 1:40 bus leaves 1:55

Thursday: Practice at Elm Creek at 6:15-7:45. Classic, focus on striding and kick-double pole. We will work with small groups. We have 2 vans for those who can’t drive.

Friday: Practice at Elm Creek at 2:45-4:30. Classic intervals. 1k intervals from the bottom of the wall, up the bypass and around the donut, finish over the top. 1 k active recovery back to where you started. Skip the 0.5k section on the lower end. For varsity boys, 5-6 intervals. For Varsity girls and jv, 4-5. For some beginners we will do shorter intervals. We will have 2 vans for this practice too. One at 2:45 for High school and one for middle school at 3:15.

Saturday: We will go ski at Mora Vasaloppet trails, about 70-75 minutes away. We are hoping to reserve the same two vans for this as well. Meet and leave ERHS at 8 am. We will do a distance skate ski of 20-25k. Stop for lunch on the way home.

Thanks to everyone for the flexibility and great attitudes this year with the low snow. It’s gone a long way to the success we have had so far. Lets keep up the good work the second half of the year. It should be a great one!

Hi everyone,

First off. Great job to everyone who skied at Mesabi this weekend. We had another great race, especially among conference and section opponents. The second half of the season looks very promising going forward!

The practice schedule is updated for the week. We will be at woodlands for practice, with Friday possibly being at elm creek based on snow conditions for classic skiing. Check out full details under the practice tab.

We have team pictures this week. They will be Tuesday at Woodlands at 3:30. Bring your team uniform and team jacket if you have one.

If you have ordered a team jacket for this year, hopefully they will get here soon. I will talk to Mt. Borah about the status of the order tomorrow.  Uniforms for Rogers should be on the way, too.

Should be another great week!

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone has had a good winter break. I know that our team trip to Michigan/Wisconsin went very well. Thanks to all the parents who helped out.

This week we have two races, one for everyone at Hyland on Wednesday (Classic), and the second race for varsity only this weekend at Giants Ridge. (Mesabi)

Here is our schedule for Wednesday at Hyland.

Girls 5k at 4:00, Boys at 4:30. 2.5k option for skiers as well. 20 second intervals, one skier from each team.

Leave times are as follows.

Zimmerman gets out at 1:05, bus leaves at 1:15

Salk/Vandenberg gets out at 1:10, walk to High School to catch bus at 1:35

ERHS, gets out at 1:20, bus leaves at 1:35

Rogers HS, gets out at 1:40, bus leaves 1:55

Then head to Hyland for meet, return to Elk River around 6:30-7 depending on traffic.

On Thursday we will practice at Woodland Trails in Elk River! We finally have enough snow to ski there and we are very excited! We will be skating as there is not enough snow for classic tracks yet.

On Friday we leave for Giants Ridge and the Mesabi Invite. We will leave after school about 3-3:30 and drive up to stay at Ring-Jarvi’s cabin. (former Elk River coach) We will stay overnight there and come home Saturday night after our races. We have permission slips and a cost for entry fee and lodging which will be handed out Wednesday. The meet is for top 6 from each team who are able to go. Entries are final as they were submitted yesterday. Here is who is going.

Rogers Boys Skate: Ethan, Tyler, Joey R.   Classic: Alex H., Andy, Hayden

Rogers Girls Skate: Anna, Elise, Ella

ER/Zim Boys Skate: Jadon, Lucas, Matthew    Classic: Eliott, Miles, Cameron

ER/Zim Girls Skate: Annica, Ilie, Sophie R.       Classic: Cheresa, Katelyn, Micah

No organized practice Friday or Saturday for those not racing at Measbi. Please ski on your own at Woodland Trails or elsewhere. The more time on skis the better, especially for first year skiers. Ski time on snow is the most important factor in improvement of skiing.

Should be a great week of skiing!

Hi Everyone,

Here is what we have for the winter trip latest. It looks like we will be getting snow while we are up there, which is awesome! ABR is likely the best option to ski at, they have over 45k of trails open. Wolverine also has great snow and the full trail system open, around 30k. Minocqua Winter Park has less snow, but does have all the close trails open, including the race course we did last year. Probably around 15-20k. They may open more trails with good snow. The Birkie trails have a 3k man made loop near the start, and limited grooming elsewhere, but is still an option for our final day of skiing.

The tentative plan would be to ski at each location once, and we will for sure ski at ABR on Thursday on the way up to Camp Jorn.

Here is the latest weather forecast for the area.

Thursday: High 32, snow, overnight low, 25.

Friday: High 26, basically the same temperature all day, overnight low, 8

Saturday: Day of classic time trial race. High 16, should be good kick, overnight low, 3

Sunday: High 16, ski, then come back to Minnesota.

Other things, here is a packing list and updated itinerary. Winter Trip Packing List

Wax room will be open from 3-5pm on the 26th to wax your skis. Day before we leave.

Remember to bring multiple layers of dry clothes, hats, and gloves, they will get wet when skiing. Also bring dry clothes to change into every day when we are done so no one gets sick or cold. Also bring some snacks to eat after you are done skiing, we have snacks for the team as well.

See you all on Thursday at 6:00 am at Elk River high school to load the bus. We will have everyone in groups for cooking and cleaning during the trip. We will have the groups made and let you know them on Thursday. You will also get kick wax for each group, don’t lose them.

Lastly, Merry Christmas to everyone!!
