The race schedule has been finalized and is posted under info and forms. Most of the meets will be on these days and at these locations, however, mother nature does not always cooperate. We will be posting any updates here as races may change venues or days due to the weather and snow conditions.
We will be handing out school ski rentals this week. Rentals are $25 each for skate and classic, so if you are renting both that is $50. You can make checks out to Elk River Nordic. We will start fitting the kids for skis on Wednesday and continue on Friday. If you have your ski bag and ski ties, please bring them so you can keep your skis nice and so you don’t lose them. Hopefully it snows soon so we can try them out!
The Thanksgiving weekend trip to Giants Ridge, which was moved to the upcoming weekend Dec 1-3, unfortunately looks unlikely to happen as we had planned. Giants Ridge currently has limited nordic trails available as “rock” ski conditions. They have stopped grooming the trails until they get more snow. The weather forecast for Biwabik this week has highs in the mid to upper 30’s and no significant snow. More than likely ski trail conditions will not improve at all, and they will probably get some melting snow from the high temps as well. With all this said, we hope to do the trip at some point this year as it was beneficial to all who came last year. Stay tuned for updates, possibly moving it to later weekends in December as more snow falls.
Hello athletes and parents,
Practice has been going well so far, we have lots of good and motivated new skiers. Hopefully we get some snow before long!
The Wild Turkey Wattle, our biggest fundraiser is coming up. It is a 5k run/walk Thanksgiving morning at Otsego Park. The race starts at 8am and clean up will be done around 10am so you have time to get to Thanksgiving dinner with your family. If you are in town, your athletes are expected to help out. We got 400+ people last year, which is great, but we need all the kids helping with set up, clean up, registration, etc… to make it a success. If you have not yet signed up, or are a parent looking to help, let me know, or sign up at practice. Also, everyone needs to bring a treat, (cookies, muffins, bread, etc..) for the runners after. If you will be out of town, drop off your treat with a friend or at practice with the coaches so we can bring it.
Practice next week will be like a regular week even though there isn’t school. Be there dressed and ready to go at 2:45 at ER High School, Monday, Tuesday, and Wedsnsday. Thursday is the Wild Turkey Wattle, Friday will be 2:45 at Elk River High School, and Saturday, 8am at Elk River High School. If you will be out of town at all, let us know.
We are moving the Thanksgiving Trip up to Giants Ridge to the following weekend due to snow conditions. We have room for maybe 12-14 kids based on years of experience first.
This weekends practice has been posted under the practice schedule tab, but I’ve been getting questions. We will do core at 8am at ER High School, in the weight room, followed by driving to Elm Creek to do a long rollerski. Everyone who can come is welcome. If you aren’t sure if you can handle the volume of a long rollerski, talk to one of the coaches at practice. We encourage everyone to be at the core if possible.
Clothing orders for team shirts, pants and 1/2 zip are due Friday, Nov.17th. Sign up is online using this link Clothing Order We have sample sizes to try on at school.
Team jacket orders through Mt. Borah are due next Wednesday, Nov. 22. We handed out forms at practice, if you didn’t get a form talk to Coach Julie. We unfortunately don’t have sample sizes, but Mt. Borah has a great chart for sizing. Sizing Chart
Remember the Wild Turkey Wattle is coming up Thanksgiving morning. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and allows us to go on the Winter Trip to Camp Jorn. We need athlete volunteers for packet stuffing, food prep, set up, registration, clean up, etc… We also need people with vehicles to haul gear to and from the high school. We will have a sign up sheet at practice.
Lastly Elm Creek passes can be bought for $37.50 for the whole Winter season. This pass is good at all three rivers parks for skiing. They are currently making snow at Elm Creek, and it may be open sometime next week. It a great thing to have if we encounter low natural snow at Woodland Trails.
