Our first meet is this Tuesday at Elm Creek! This a grade level race, so you will be competing against your grade level. Senior boys go first at 3:30pm on down through the boys grade levels. Senior girls will start at 3:50pm on down through the girls grade levels. All returning high school skiers will be doing the 5k course. Beginners and middle school have the option of a 2.5Km starting at 4:10pm (boys and then girls). We will bring the leftover food from the Wild Turkey Wattle to this race but we need parents to adopt meets! This makes the meet much more enjoyable for the athletes – and it’s important for them to refuel after a race. As families adopt meets, I will be posting the “adoption” on the google calendar linked on the right. Information about adopting a meet is under the “fan support” page.
Bus schedule for picking up on Tuesday:
- 12:55 Zimmerman (bus pick-up)
- 1:05 Salk and Vandenberg (Salk will be picked up with a bus)
- 1:20 Elk River High School
- 1:35 Rogers High School (we’ll pick you up on the way and drop you off on the way home – have a plan for your skis ahead of time!)
If you are picking up your athlete from Elm Creek, know that they can only leave with a parent/guardian after signing the athlete out – or, with another person who has obtained permission through the front office in advance.
WINTER TRIP INFORMATION – Click here for a handout
Current Athletes $175 or less according to the Wild Turkey Wattle – payment amounts will be distributed this week sometime at practice. Click here for the permission slip
Alumni $175 – If you are an alumni, or know an alumni planning on coming with for the trip, please email me! I need to do background checks for all alumni and parent chaperones.
Parent Chaperones $Pending…($175 or less) minus the cost of gas if you drive yourself. The cost will depend on how many parents are interested in going on the trip. We are looking for at least one adult per 9 students. Please email me if you are interested, I need to do background checks for all parent chaperones (this happens each year).
Great job today to everyone who ran, volunteered and cheered on the Wild Turkey Wattle! I am thankful for such a wonderful community and ski team. It was a cold morning but everyone was in good spirits. A huge thank you to the Vrchota’s for the fire and the Corkery’s for the signs and race marking. If you are looking for results, they will be posted on the link to the right as soon as they are processed.
Team - try to get out and ski over the break. If you are interested in meeting up, the Kallemeyn’s are skiing at Woodland on Friday at 9am. They are also heading up to Greystone Trails in St. Cloud on Saturday. Let them know if you are interested so that they can get a head count. The plan is to carpool from the Kallemeyn house at 8:20am and head up to ski 90min of classic in the morning and 90min of skate in the afternoon. If you go, you need to bring money for lunch, water bottle, snacks and dry clothes for after. Happy trails!
The back up location for the race is officially secured! If the trails at Woodland are too snowy for the race, we will be hosting the race at Otsego Regional Park.
Parents: If you are looking to help out, we usually stock the finish line with baked goods. If each family could provide some “treat” (healthy or not) for the finish line, that will help make the race even more wonderful.
Athletes: You will be expected to help out during the beginning, end of the race, or during packet pick-up. There will be a sign up at practice. Remember, tell people to sign up and sponsor you!
Jacket and pants order forms have been handed out. They are due on Friday. These are not mandatory, but if you need a good ski jacket, it is a good deal.
Great job this week! Be ready for classic skiing next week! If you have time this weekend try to do the core workout that we did as a group on Thursday. It’s posted under the “Weekly Practice Schedule” tab.
Wonderful news! There is now a one-way bus from Rogers immediately after school! The bus will be the Far North Bus (Farthest from Road) in the Bus Corral around 2:15 and depart RHS around 2:20 PM for ERH. They have this bus on a trial basis right now to see how many students would use it. Unless you are driving to school and driving yourself, please consider this option so that we can keep the bus for the future.
