Temps are looking good for Wednesday’s Conference Championships right now. We’ll see how the next few days progress but right now – there is hope for some “warmth”!

Race Schedule:

  • 10:00 Boys Freestyle
  • 11:00 Girls Freestyle
  • 1:40 Boys Classic with pursuit start
  • 2:40 Girls Classic with pursuit start

Racers and Alternates:

  • Boys: Joey, Breck, Dan, Karl, Colin, Ben, Aaron, Jhonny, Peyton, Matt, with Luke and Bradley as Alternates.
  • Girls: Reece, Brittney, Mallory, Ali M., Shannon, Emma, Tori M., Maggie H., Hannah, Taylor, with Ally S. and Lydia as Alternates.

We are still looking for some additional help for waxing so if you are available – please let one of the coaches know. We’ll get you directions to the Hickman’s. We’ll be starting around 4 or 4:30 but you can come any time that works for you – we go until we finish – in the last few years that has been around 9 but we need some additional help to pull that off this year. Thank you to those that have already volunteered! Again – we’ll teach you if you don’t have experience! All levels welcome!

There is a pasta dinner at Taylor Nelson’s house tonight – don’t forget!! 5:00pm! If you need directions or an address, contact a coach or captain or Taylor herself.

The JV Meet on Thursday is still being finalized but we will get that posted as soon as possible.

The practice schedule has been updated – practice for everyone on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Check back for more updates this evening – we are hoping to get the JV race on Thursday set for a time schedule.

First of all – enjoy the warm temps today – they are not sticking around…but it should be a beautiful practice on the snow!
Announcements to address some upcoming needs and changes:

  • JV Conference Championships: Has been moved to Thursday, Jan 30th at Baker Park. With the projected weather and the crazy-busy end of the season coming – we’ve been able to secure the park and the date and the weather says it will be legal for racing that day. We are going to take it!
  • Conference Championships: Are coming up on Wednesday the 29th at Wirth. The forecast looks legal but cold so we will see what happens – it will depend on how things warm up race morning to see if we are delayed or if we can start on time.
  • Waxing for Conference: With the bigger races coming up – we will again be putting the top coat(s) of fast (aka-expensive) wax on the racers skis. The Hickman’s have been fantastic about hosting us the last few years in their heated garage and will be doing the same this year. With our coaching changes and with one coach being a “+1″ now, our waxing troop numbers have dwindled a bit. We need help! We won’t ask you to do anything you are uncomfortable with and we will make sure you are trained properly to help with waxing – but we will need numbers of parents to help with the waxing. We will start waxing as early as we can get set up after school/practice and we’d like to finish not too late. In the past couple years we’ve been done around 9 but with the depleted numbers of bodies, we are a little nervous about time. If you are able to help – contact Coach K and she’ll get you directions and time. Again – even if you don’t have experience, you will be taught how to help, there is a lot to be done and you will definitely be utilized.
  • Pasta Dinner: Taylor Nelson (and family) are hosting a pasta dinner this Sunday before Conference and JV Conference. We will be handing out address/directions at practice on Friday but if you didn’t get one, contact one of the captains or coaches (or Taylor of course) and we’ll direct you there!
  • Practices: With the coming weather and meets – practices get creative a little. With Conference/Sections being at Wirth we’d really like the varsity groups to get down to ski the courses down there this weekend. We can’t have official practice but we will have a suggested workout. This would be preferred for Saturday but if that won’t work in your schedule we understand and Sunday would be an option. Sunday is usually our off day – but – with Monday’s weather (and now Tuesday’s) we really need to take advantage of the temps being above zero. We’d like you to get out and ski on Sunday on your own also. Again, we’ll have a suggested workout for you if you are able. Woodlands would be great – not much extra driving. Monday – we are anticipating that the race is canceled (99.99% sure) – instead we will have the varsity group meet in Coach K’s room to go over some race details for Conference, some video and talk through some other upcoming things. Tuesday we are still up in the air and we’ll adjust that as the weekend comes up. We will be waxing the conference skier’s skis on Tuesday night so you will need to have the base coat on those skis and have the kick zone’s cleaned out. (Yes – you need to clean your kick zone!) ;-) Wednesday is an all day meet for varsity and Thursday will be the afternoon meet for JV with recovery ski for varsity.

We know things are crazy right now – with school days changing, finals being moved, big races coming up. You guys are awesome though and keep doing the good work. A huge thanks to all the families that have helped out this season and those that are hosting and bringing things in the next few weeks. Parents of conference skiers – you will be contacted to bring or send some food/drinks with for your skiers. As a team we provide/organize the meals at Conference and Sections so we can make sure that the kids are eating appropriately and well in between their TWO races those days. They need to recover quickly to be ready for that second race and this really helps them to do so. We’ll be doing the same for the Section meet the following week. Thank you in advance for your help with that and for all the support you give the skiers and the team.

Also – thank you for your flexibility!! Some years we don’t have snow – this year we finally have great snow and wow – if we could have a week of temps above zero I think that would be crazy! ;-) We are Minnesotan’s though – if we didn’t have the weather, what would we talk about half the time. Soak up the sun today – and then bundle up really (REALLY) well the next several days. Thank you!!

The meet for tomorrow has been canceled. Anoka has canceled school for tomorrow so we will not be able to have our ski meet. Instead we will have indoor practice and go through video/technique work. Please bring indoor clothing. We will be done early. There will be no middle school practice.

Friday will be a skate practice – weather looks fabulous! Study for finals and get some rest!

Congrats on some great racing today! After yesterday’s full day event at the Jamboree it was great to see the JV/Middle School group out racing today. The temps were cold and the wind was a little breezy but we were able to get the race in and then get the skiers back in their warm-ups. Team results are up now – we’ll link up the other results once we get them all. Nice job today all!

Jamboree Results!!
Both the Girl’s and Boy’s Teams were 2nd Place!! They did an awesome job against some very tough competition! Results are linked up here. Relay splits aren’t up yet but should be up shortly. Between the Sprint Races, the Continuous Pursuit, and the Relays it was a very busy day. Thank to all the parents and supporters that came down to see the race. We’ll be back at Wirth Park next Monday for the JV Championships, next Wednesday for the Conference Championships (Varsity), and the following Thursday for the Section Championships (Varsity).

The rest of this week is still busy – we have a short practice day tomorrow between the two races – the wax room will be open right after school and then we’ll have ski practice at 3:30. Thursday we have one more race this week – classic – with the start times based off of our finish from the race today (Tuesday). Friday will also be a shorter practice day with the wax room open again and practice on snow at 3:30.

With finals this week we know that you are busy with school work but you have also made a commitment to the team. As a student athlete you need to balance both your commitments to school and your commitment to the team(along with everything else you have going on). Finals week and the end of the semester do NOT give you the excuse to skip practice and meets. School does come first but you need to make choices that allow you to keep the commitments you have made. If you need to miss practice or a meet, talk to one of the coaches first. We have had too many skiers skipping out on practice for various “reasons”. Enough of the soap box – have a great night!

We’ll be out skiing tomorrow again – the weather looks to be chilly again so dress in layers and make sure you have a face mask and HAT. That would be a HAT – not a headband – in this weather. See you tomorrow!!
