We made it! We arrived home last night close to 8:20 and the trailer was already unpacked and organized, ready to be picked up. A huge thank you to the trailer pullers-Rob B. and Dave K. for coming with along with our 8 alumni.
We’ll try to get the skiathlon results up later today. Happy New Year! Get some rest and get healthy! Rest!!

Dec 302009

We are on our way home! We left Hayward around 4:30 and plan on taking one bathroom break on the way. We hope to be back around 8:20 if the roads are good. We’ll have the kids call as we get closer.
All safe, most healthy, and hopefully very tired…

“skitting”?  Is that a word?

We woke up this morning, had a quick breakfast and were back on the trails at Winter Park.  We had our annual winter trip Time Trial this morning, a skiathlon format with classic first, a quick change of equipment, and then skate.  The kids did great and we have seen a ton of improvement already!

We returned to the lodge for lunch and then headed out on the team ski of Nutcracker.  The team as a whole was victorious over the “cracker” but the trail did get the better of two skis.  One ski was left to be a coat hanger, forever memorialized at Winter Park – Sully left his mark there.  The other ski we are hopeful that it can be repaired…

Tonight’s pictures are large as they include pictures from several sources on the team – the do flow in cronological order for the most part but do take us back to day 1 to start.  The time trial shots are included as well and there are some great ones.  Feel free to print any you like!

We finished the evening with skits and they were something this year.  Something else…  We’ll let you wait for the banquet to see most of those.

We’ll be home tomorrow around 7:30-8:30 pm as long as roads are good.  We’ll have the kids call along the way so you have a better time estimate.  We’ve got some tired young skiers but they are great kids.  We’ll share one quick story before signing off tonight.

We run into some of the same people every year at the trail systems that we go to and they always great us warmly.  They think our kids are pretty darn good and they enjoy seeing us on the trail.  The past two days we have talked with several people at the trails that are very impressed with how great the team was acting, how easily they got on the trail system, how they cleaned up, how they treated the system.  This morning when we arrived at the lodge to pick up passes and head out on the trail, one of the front desk people handed us a pack of 60 vouchers for free cups of cider and hot cocoa.  A gentleman from the area that we’ve seen in past years had been so impressed with the way the group was involved that he donated that as a treat for our kids.  We also had several people watching our kids racing today and playing the relay games in the snow yesterday and they were impressed with how hard they were working and how much fun they were having – you have wonderful kids and we thank you for letting us work with them!

We’ll see you tomorrow – they will be tired (and maybe a little crabby) – so once they get some sleep, I’m sure they’ll love to tell you all about it!!

Enjoy the pictures in the meantime and we’ll try to get the Time Trial results up tomorrow night or Thursday!

And we continue skiing… We’ve had good weather and snow cover with a few more inches falling each day. The temps have been comfortable and while the wind was blowing pretty strong today, the trails back in the woods were pretty pleasant.
We started the morning with an early breakfast and were loaded on the bus and ready to go by 7:45. Your skiers have been cooking and cleaning up for our meals and have been doing a great job! Tonight it was grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato, chicken noodle, or chicken wild rice soup. Tomorrow for lunch we’ll be having au gratinpotatoes along with the sandwiches – the kids were getting those ready tonight and they look great (thank turquoise team!!).
We have the time trial scheduled for tomorrow morning, 4.2 km classic followed by the 4.2 km skate. We’ll take a break for lunch after and then head out on the “Nutcracker” trail as a team. Pictures from today are linked below.

Dec 272009

We’ve skied, we’ve eaten, we’ll be playing games soon and then heading off to sleep. We’ll try to load up some pictures tonight but we may have to wait until tomorrow to get a strong signal.
Lasagna was for dinner with salad and some wonderful Diamond City Bread. Tomorrow we’ll be heading over to the Winter Park Trails to ski all day and into the evening a little for some night skiing (with headlamps!). We’ve got scrambled eggs planned for breakfast along with the usual fare and some hot baked potatoes planned for lunch along with sandwiches.  The weather is looking perfect so it will be a day filled with skiing!

Sleeping bag, pillow, towel, bag lunch, leftover holiday goodies…

Dec 262009

Tomorrow is the day… Don’t forget to pack light and pack the needed items first! Somethings that are often forgotten – a bag lunch, your race suite, extra hat and gloves, winter boots, leftover holiday treats, water bottle, headlamp, watch, fanny pack(small backpack)…
6:00 am at the high school! Be ready to load the trailer and get on the quick!
Enjoy another snowy day…

Dec 222009

The packing list and some details were handed out at practice last night. If your skier did not bring that home, you can click on the link below for the copy.

We’ll post any updates on the site by the morning of December 26th if there are any changes.  The winter storm looks like it will have blown through by the time we leave so that is good for our travel.  If you are going to be on your way somewhere, please travel with care!  Enjoy the time with family and please call with any questions.  Coach K’s cell number is on the trip form so if you need to reach her, feel free (just not at 2:00am unless it is an emergency!)  ;-)

We will not have official practice tomorrow but you are expected to ski at some point.  Woodland’s will be groomed and looking good so have fun and explore – 90 + mins.  If you want to continue with classic – Elm Creek is tracked and would have good skiing, just don’t forget to pick up a ski pass there.  We will have some great classic tracks on the winter trip also, all locations are reporting great snow conditions with more snow projected in the coming days.

Stay healthy, eat well and enjoy time with your family.  Remember – 6:00am at the high school on the 27th!!

Dec 212009

Parents – we are looking for a few crock pots to take with on the Winter Trip for some warm lunches. If you would be willing to share yours for a few days, please let a coach know. Thanks in advance!

Dec 192009

We want to send a huge thank you out to all of our volunteers today.  Thank you to our course setters: Mitch, Phil, and Max, thank you to the groomers – we would not have been able to hold the race without your fine work, thank you to our food providers: Kay and Theresa, thank you to our course maintainers (wielding the handy shovel), fire keepers, photographers, wood providers, registrars, timers, water-hander-outers, sign holders, cheerers, supporters, racers, and all the other “ers” that I’m forgetting.  We had a great event, and it was thanks to all of you!  Two more inches of snow might have made it perfect, but it was pretty good even without it.  Thank you!

Results are posted now and have been sent to SkinnySki.  Photos will go up as soon as they are passed along.  Thanks for the great day!  We ended up with 93 registered and 91 raced, awesome!
