A huge thank you to all that helped at the run yesterday. We had 60 people participate in our inaugural event – a great start for future events! We’ll have totals for the skiers fundraising early next week for each skier – congrats for putting on a great show! We had a challenging course, decent weather, great people and a great start to an excellent day.
Hopefully you were all able to rest up today and recover from all of your eating, mmm – leftovers! Tomorrow we’ll meet up at 7:00am for core body, it looks like it will be beautiful tomorrow afternoon so that would be a great time to add in a roller-ski also.
Enjoy the rest of your Friday!
Woodland Trails has some sections that need some work and some of the trail crew is getting together on Sunday to do that. Below is the note from Dave Anderson along with a map of where they will be on Sunday. If you are looking for something to that day – let them know!
Wayne is planning an after Thanksgiving chainsaw and log toss party for us. See the attached map for the trail enhancement planned for Scouring Rush. We will be adding a little more up and an improved downhill run. We are going to meet at 8 in the morning on Sunday, November 29th on the Watson cul-de-sac. We will load up into one truck and drive part way back.
Let me know if you can help. If we get one more saw and a couple of log tossers, we should be able to finish by noon.
It will be fun!
Dave
Wow! We’ve got to start with a congrats to the team for this morning’s practice. 39! (counting 2 returning graduates!) Great numbers, great work, and hopefully a GREAT breakfast afterward. Well done group!
The Wild Turkey Wattle is tomorrow so make sure that your people have registered and are ready to go. We are unsure of the numbers that are coming – skinnyski did post a link so we may have a few more people coming through that. Workers – we’ll need you there at 7:15 to help us get set up and positioned, you’ll be out of there by 9:30 (or earlier if need be) Thanks in advance! Also, if people are able, could we have a few of you bring a dozen or so cookies/bars/treats or a jug of apple juice/cider for after the race? Nothing fancy and this is short notice so if you are able…call or drop Coach K an e-mail.
What else?? We’ll find out as we go…fun – fun – fun! See you bright and early again tomorrow (dress warm, should be a great day!). Oh – enjoy your Turkey Day and eat up!
We apologize to the parents tonight – we were running late after “losing” a few kids into the woods – all are accounted for and are home safe, but it took a few extra minutes (or so). We’ll be sure to have them back on time tomorrow and in the next trips! Thanks for your understanding!
Great workout today team!!
That is one of the words that comes to mind when describing yesterday. Beautiful, exciting, challenging, fun, interesting, fast, sunny, … We could continue but we digress. 21 teams participated in the Ride ‘n Tie, our largest showing yet. After 12 miles of racing, over an hour out on the course, sweaty, tired, acomplished – and – only 18 seconds seperated first and second place. Elk River was well represented this year but we were unable to bring the trophy back – next year we’ll be there. Results are posted online, contgrats to all who participated and thanks to the parents that came along and cheered!
Tomorrow we are heading down the road a bit to the excellent trails of the Three River’s Park District. (Maple Grove High School Stadium parking lot). Be there a little before 10:00am so we can start on time. The weather looks like it will be perfect so bring your family and friends and we’ll make a great morning of it. One bike and one helmet per pair of people (if you don’t have a partner, we’ll find you one there)! Snacks afterward – we’ll see you there!
Wednesday already – details to add -
- Clothing orders are being wrapped up by the captains, they would like final orders in by Thursday (tomorrow), or Friday at the latest. Checks can be made out to Steve Nordahl so that one check can be written to the company.
- Make sure all paperwork is turned in to the office and all forms are complete – a coach will be tracking you down if you are missing anything.
- We’d like to start getting registration forms in for the Winter Trip soon so we know what numbers we have to work with, if you have questions – please let us know.
- The ride ‘n tie is Saturday at Maple Grove Stadium. Bring family, friends, yourself, a bike for every two people, and a helmet. The weather looks like it will be perfect so come enjoy a great day with some great people and treats afterward. We want to start at 10:00 am so arrive a little before that. Directions will be handed out at practice.
- The Wild Turkey Wattle is coming up a week from tomorrow – this is a fund-raising event for the skiers so encourage them to get out and sign people up. We have fliers at the local areas but many people don’t know we are even holding the event – spread the word, let your family and friends know and we’ll see you out their for a great event. The run/walk will get started at 8:00am so we should be finished around 9:00 and cleaned up and on our way home by 9:30am. Plenty of time to cook that turkey and get cleaned up and pretty for the family.
We’ve had some great practices this week so far, pole hiking on Monday was excellent and what a perfect day to be outside. Yesterday and today we were able to get everyone on roller skis to work on technique (classic) and with the number of skiers we have this year, that is quite a feat! Today our veteran skiers helped our newer skiers in small groups and they are looking great. It will be exciting to actually see them on skis (at some point)…the weather may not be cooperating as far as snow is concerned but the weather itself has been pretty enjoyable.
We’ll add more later as I’m sure more will come up – go team!
We do have bus transportation for middle school skiers at this point – you will meet at the high school and we will get you where you need to go!
Wow, the season has started and there is no stopping us know. There were many of you down at the swaps this weekend so that was great. The equipment went fast so hopefully many of you were able to grab things before they disappeared. We’ll be handing out equipment this week so we’ll have a better idea of what is available for everyone. Veterans, we might be a little short on skis this year so we might not have “rock” skis for you but we will do our best to cover everyone.
Pole hiking tomorrow so be sure to bring your short poles if you have them. The ski room will be open before the bus so you can grab poles if you need them.
Some of you are still missing forms in the office, please be sure that everything is up-to-date and turned in, we’ll get another copy of the list tomorrow and will be chasing you down if you are missing anything.
Also – congratulations again to the girl’s cross country team! They competed in Sioux Falls, South Dakota yesterday at the Nike Cross Nationals Heartland Regional Race. The girl’s team placed 2nd!! Emma Bates was 6th overall, Abbi was close behind in 7th and rounding out the team was Chelsea S., Victoria J., Jane K., Erin N., and Anna H. Wow, their season just keeps getting better – and who thought they could top being State Champions! Congrats girls, we are looking forward to having you back with the team – only after you finish your “run” this season though! Keep up the great work!!
P.S. – The weather looks perfect for our pole hike tomorrow!! Thank you November!
Wow, already we are through the first week! It is hard to believe that after the month of October – our November weather has been pretty darn good! We had our frist core body workout today with 33 skiers! It was a full room and we had a great workout. Your athletes may be a little sore after hill bounding Thursday and then Core today. Encourage them to get out and rollerski/bike/pole hike tomorrow to help loosen up a bit. And STRETCH!!
Don’t forget that the ski swaps are tomorrow – it’s the reason that we won’t have Saturday morning practice this week. Coach K will be done at Dunwoody to help if needed – otherwise there will be people staffing the ski swaps, don’t be afraid to ask for help – the people working want to help you.
Monday will be a long pole hike at Hillside Park. Enjoy your weekend and if you went to breakfast, we hope you had fun (and were well behaved)!
Don’t forget to talk to people about the Wild Turkey Wattle!!
